Red pepper has many benefits that we don’t often think about. Most of us think of hot sauce when we think of spiciness.
but Turner and his colleagues at the red chilli sauce Institute see hot peppers as something more than that. We can call it the “Hot Pepper Paradox”.
That is, on the contrary, we always consider it crazy to consume such hot sauces and avoid them, but hot sauce and salsa are among the healthiest foods on the planet.
Properties of hot pepper
There are thousands of hot peppers that have similar nutritional benefits. For example, green chili peppers are low in calories, sugar, fat, and carbohydrates, cholesterol free, and high in vitamin C.
Vitamin C is associated with increased metabolism, connective tissue development, neurotransmitter biosynthesis, immune function, wound healing, and iron absorption.
In addition, this vitamin is an antioxidant, that is, it destroys free radicals that damage cells. Vitamin C is necessary for healthy skin, teeth and bones and even helps prevent scurvy.
Hot chili peppers contain carotenoids (vitamin A), flavonoids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, all of which have anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties and are effective in protecting DNA and reducing blood pressure.
The real wonder of chili peppers is capsaicin; A colorless herbal composition that gives hot pepper its spiciness and pain relief. Capsaicin is so powerful that it is often used in topical pain relief creams.
Capsaicin is found in hot peppers, hot sauces, and salsas. In chili peppers, capsaicin is concentrated in the tissue that holds the seeds. Pepper seeds may also be hot, but contrary to popular belief, this heat is not from the seeds themselves, their heat is due to the capsaicin they have absorbed from the tissues around them.
Scoville scale is a standard measure to measure the hotness of pepper. Some red sauces produce 2,500 to 5,000 spiciness units. The spiciness of pure capsaicin is 16 million squill units!
Note: Do not pour pure capsaicin into the soup, or you may be launched like a rocket towards the moon!
